If you are new to the blogging world and would like to know how to create a blog post that ROCKS, or perhaps you want to step up your blogging game, here are my favorite tips on how to create a blog post that ROCKS.
KILL THEM WITH THE TITLE
A blog post that ROCKS starts with the title. So the first thing you want to do when drafting your blog post, especially if you would like to create a blog post that rocks, is to choose a killer title. According to Copyblogger, around 8 out of 10 peeps will read the headline copy, and only 2 out of the ten will end up reading the article.
Ways to create a killer title:
- Keep your title short and crisp. Around 7 words are perfect.
- Include the keyword but don’t overkill it.
- Spice it up a little.
Ways to spice up your title:
- Number titles- Start the title with a number, introducing a list post.
- How to titles – let the reader know you will be showing how to do something.
- Urgency titles – create a sense of urgency. I’ve got to read this right NOW kind of title.
- Scarcity titles – promise the reader they will get something only a few people have
- Promising titles – assure the reader that they will get some good stuff to read
- Curiosity titles – invoke curiosity. We human beings are very curious creatures.
PICTURE PERFECT IMAGE
A blog is not complete without some compelling images.
- Images attract and draw people in.
- They boost reader engagement.
- It breaks up the overload of information.
- The right image reinforces the overall message of the article.
- They keep the reader longer on your blog.
INTRODUCTION
Your introduction is your opportunity to grab your reader’s attention, draw them in, and engage with them.
- Be interesting.
- Make it eye-catching.
- Dare to be different.
- Be fearlessly authentic.
OUTBOUND & INTERNAL LINKS
Make sure to add some outbound links. Whenever you share information from other websites, link to them, this is important. It provides a sense of authority, and it increases your potential to rank higher for SEO.
Also, link from one page on your website to other pages on your website to help your users find your website’s content. This is called internal links, and this is how readers navigate through your website to find the content they are looking for.
HEADINGS & SUBHEADINGS
There is so much information out there, so most people skim through the article before reading the entire article. Headings & subheading breakdown to the reader what they are about to learn. It makes your blog post easier to read, and it is what your reader will pick up and remember from your article.
Each heading teaches the reader what the section is about. Using bold and italic words makes the article more clear and easy to ready.
ORDER LISTS
Order list is another way to help readers skim through the article and get the information they are looking for faster. You can use numbers: 1,2,3 etc. or first, second, or use bullets, anything that helps the user get their information quick and easy.
DIFFERENT MEDIA FORMATS
Although I am a minimalist and believe that less is more, not everyone is like me, and we all consume information differently. So if you want to attract a larger audience, you want to use multiple media formats to describe and convey your message. It can be in the format of text, image, video, audio. Unleash your creativity.
CONCLUSION
Always end with a strong conclusion. Conclude your ideas and recap your main point. Most people, when they first land on your blog post, they will scroll down to the end of the article, and if it is something worth reading, they will scroll back up and read the entire article.
ENCOURAGE COMMENTS
A great way to encourage comments is to end your blog post by asking a question. It is a great way to connect with your audience.
BONUS TIP
To make your blog post less boring and more bombass, try to create a sense of conversation by using words such as you and I.
