Want to create a morning routine to kick-start your brain for tremendous success, greater focus, and greater productivity?
Here are 8 things I do every morning to kick-start my brain.
First – Recall my dreams
When I wake up in the morning, the first thing I do is snooze my alarm for 15 minutes, and I do a process to recall my dreams.
We spend so much time during the day working, learning and solving problems, and when we slumber, our mind does not stop; our conscious mind keeps working on those issues. And when we sleep we come up with tremendous insights and solutions. But the problem is most of us don’t remember our dreams when we wake up.
Second – Drink a glass of water
Our brain is 80% water. It is vital to keep your grey matter hydrated. When you sleep, you tend to dehydrate and lose a lot of water. So first thing in the morning, make sure to hydrate yourself.
Third – Brush my teeth with my left hand (my opposite hand)
Studies have shown when you use your opposite hand to brush your teeth; it creates more neuron connections in your brain.
I use my opposite hand to brush my teeth because it feels a bit uncomfortable; but this forces me to slow down and be more fully present in the moment. By putting my undivided attention on brushing my teeth, it quickly pulls me into the present moment.
Fourth – SKY Breathing Exercise
The next thing I do is a deep breathing exercise, Sudarshan Kriya (SKY). Oxygen is extremely good for your brain. When we get tired, we get brain fog.
The most important thing to do when you feel mental fatigue is to get oxygen flowing in your body.
Your brain is about 2% of your body weight, but it absorbs 20% of the nutrients and oxygen. Therefore it is important to do some sort of deep breathing exercises.
Fifth – Journaling
Writing down your thoughts and planning out your day is another excellent way to boost your brainpower. I also like to focus a bit on gratitude early in the day.
So I write down the things I am most grateful for. Gratitude is incredible for your brain. The mind loves some appreciation. How can you get the stuff you want if you do not appreciate the things you already have.
Geniuses like Leonardo Davinci and Albert Einstein knew the power of journaling. To read more about the benefits of journaling click here.
Sixth – Trail Running
When I am done writing in my journal. I go for an hour run in nature to get my heartrate going because whatever is good for your heart is also good for your brain. By getting your heartbeat pumping, you are getting more blood flow and oxygen to your mind.

Seventh – Oatmeal for breakfast
I make myself a power brain oatmeal. Oats contains nutrients such as iron, zinc, potassium, and Vitamin B that help the brain to function at its full capacity. And the fiber contained in oats keeps me full until lunch.
Eight – A little bit of reading
I like to read while I am having my oatmeal. Rumor has it that leaders are readers. According to Jim Kwik, the average person reads only 1-2 books a YEAR, while the SEO reads 4-6 books a MONTH. So ideally, you want to read one book a WEEK.

I am a big believer of the 21/90 rule. Whenever you want to create a new habit, do it first thing in the morning before your mind has had the time to think about it and then do it for 21 days consecutively. And once you have done it for 21 days and it is in your system, commit yourself to 90 days so that it becomes part of your lifestyle.
CONCLUSION
If you create the first few hours of your day to boost your brainpower, you will conquer the rest of your day.
