To master your mind is one of the most challenging yet rewarding tools towards living an exceptionally fulfilling life.
Most of you know that it is possible to master your mind, but how often do you use this almighty tool to do so?
Your thoughts are powerful, and the quality of your thoughts determine the quality of your life. So you want to think thoughts that enrich your life.
Read further if you want to know more about the two kickass, easy to implement ways to become the master of your mind.
The first kickass way to master your mind is through the power of your breath.
At this very moment, you are reading this blog post about mastering your mind; you are physically here, but what about your mind? Is it also here? Are you paying your 100% undivided attention to what you are reading, or are you thinking about that conversation you had this morning or what you are having for dinner?
Our mind is a powerful tool. We can analyze the past, we can plan for the future, we can learn, but our best performance, our most creative moments happen in the present moment when the mind is neither thinking about the past nor the future but is entirely in the here and the now,
The question is, how can we keep this presence and remain fully present in the moment when there is so much going one?
Have you had those times in your life where you had to work all day and all night, trying to stay focused, but your mind was wandering all over the place?
Or perhaps you felt very tired of working nonstop day in day out, and all you wanted was to get some rest, a good night’s sleep, but you were lying in bed with eyes wide open, tossing and turning, and sleep wasn’t happening.
The mind was thinking about the workload, all the things you have to do tomorrow. You badly wanted to sleep, but all you were doing is planning, planning, and planning some more.
What can you do when your mind is jumping all over the place like a monkey when in truth, all you want to do is kick back and wind down?
Should you resist it, fight against it? Well, as it is with anything in life, the more you resist, the more it persists.
What if you tell yourself: okay, sweety pie, you have to get some sleep right now? Will that work? Science has proven that thought suppression does not work, and you will most likely only become more restless.
So what can you do?
There is one thing in life that is always in the present moment, and that, my friend, is your breath. You are never breathing in the past or the future; your breath is always happening at this moment.
I assume you are breathing right now; otherwise, you wouldn’t be reading this blog post, but are you aware of your breath?
Your breath is such a powerful tool because it is your gateway into the present moment. Your breath is always happening in the present moment, and if you bring your attention to your breath, this simple act automatically brings you into the present moment. This is huge.
A number of studies have shown that there is a link between your emotions and the patterns of your breath. Have you ever noticed your breath when you feel angry or fearful? It was probably fast and shallow, right?
And what about your behavior with others when you feel angry or afraid? Do you have any control over your reactions and your words? I bet you, not so much.
And what about when you feel calm, peaceful, and happy? When you feel calm you can barely notice your breath; the breath is much longer and slower, plus you have more control over your feelings and actions when you are in a calm state of mind.
So the way you feel and how you breathe go hand in hand together. In other words, you have the power within you to change how you feel, with the power of your breath.
When shit hits the fan, if you can become aware of your breath, and you pay attention to your breath, and deliberately chose to take deeper, longer, and slower breaths, you will immediately calm your mind and feel more peaceful.
The second kickass way to master your mind is through the power of meditation.
We live in a fast-paced world, things are continually changing, and we are all continuously on the move. So nowadays, it is imperative to have the ability to both turn on and turn off our minds from all activities and just freakn’ relax.
People everywhere are suffering from burnouts, feeling restless, and stressed. The ability to turn off and calm the fidgety mind is something we can all do; it is just a matter of practice. And in my opinion, there is no more powerful way to practice through some good old meditation.
Meditation is all about letting go, doing nothing, and wanting nothing. It is just setting aside all responsibilities, all the demands, and all the heavyweight you are carrying on your shoulder for only a few minutes so that you can unwind a little.
You are probably asking: how can I do that when I have so much to do and so little time. Trust me; when you take the time to reconnect with your true source, you will be in the right frame of mind, therefore able to make smarter choices and be much better able to handle the demands and responsibilities.
It is much like taking a deep breath before making the jump.
